The Tajmahal is a mausoleum sitting on the banks of the Yamuna river in Agra, India. It was built on orders of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Construction of the main structure started in 1632 AD and completed in 1648 AD.
Interesting facts:
Taj was concealed by the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) during world war || using a big scaffold to misguide bombers.
After Taj, Shah Jahan wanted to construct a mausoleum for himself in black marble. However, it never saw the light of day.
Mumtaz Mahal was initially cremated in Burhanpur across the Tapti before her final burial at Taj Mahal.
No longer a white wonder.
Over the years conversations have raised concerns about the changing colour of the Taj. Extremely high pollution levels of the city of Agra has started turning pristine white marble yellow in colour.
If adequate measures are not taken quickly, wonder in white might no longer be called so.
